Exhibitions Manager
This is the lead position for View’s exhibitions and associated programs. The Exhibition
Manager is responsible for developing the creative direction of the Exhibition program, and
works collaboratively with View team members, the Exhibition Committee, and volunteers to
implement these programs. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Major responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and implement exhibitions and related programming that is consistent
with and builds on View’s mission, vision and brand, and strengthens View’s Exhibition
offerings. - Serve as the primary View team liaison to the Exhibition Committee, regional and
national artists and collectors, and peers in the Exhibition field. - Represent the organization to artists, vendors, volunteers, interns, and audience
members. - Work closely with View leadership, team members and the Exhibition Committee to
develop exhibition concepts and other Exhibition programs that support and enhance
the exhibition content. - Develop opportunities to engage community members, seasonal residents, and visitors
through exhibition-driven programming that deepens the experience of View’s
audiences. - Work with View’s professional staff, including the Ceramics Studio Manager,
Workshops Coordinator, and Performing Arts Manager to develop participatory
activities, educational programs, and partnerships that augment the Exhibition
experience at View.
Exhibitions
- Plan and execute all exhibitions in three main galleries and ancillary exhibition spaces
including conceptualizing exhibition themes and ideas; creating and implementing calls
for artists, including juror and artist selection and related communication; create all
exhibition related materials, including wall text and artwork labels, catalogs for key
exhibitions, and all related interpretive material. - Oversee all aspects of gallery operations including installation and deinstallation,
shipping and storage of works on loan, and insurance as necessary. - Manage all artist contracts for review by the CFO/Director of Operations
- With View staff and key committee members, identify collaborators and partners to
develop related programs and expand the reach and impact of View’s exhibition
offerings. - With staff and volunteer support, coordinate opening/closing receptions, artist lectures
and demonstrations, and the multi-day Quilt Conference and other related Exhibition
programming. - Develop surveys and other feedback tools and methodologies to evaluate View’s
exhibitions and related programs. - Prepare and manage annual Exhibition program budget with oversight from the
CFO/Director of Business Operations and the Executive Director, and participate in
collaborative efforts to secure grants in support of Exhibition programs and exhibitions. - Oversee the safety and maintenance of all galleries and tools/equipment utilized for
exhibitions and related activities. - Make recommendations for equipment needs and repairs in the galleries.
- Ensure that materials and supplies for exhibitions and related programs are ordered,
utilized efficiently, inventoried appropriately, and stored in an organized manner.
Marketing and Outreach
- Propose social media and advertising content that promotes and markets exhibitions,
programs, and events. - Work with the marketing staff to design and create exhibition related marketing and
promotional materials including postcards, catalogs, posters, calendars, etc. - Draft website content and work with marketing staff to ensure that all website
information related to Exhibition is current, accurate, and complete. - Train volunteers, interns, docents and others as needed to ensure appropriate support
for exhibition programs. - Work with area schools to build partnerships and programs that serve area educators
and students. - Build relationships with peer organizations and individuals to promote collaboration,
enhance visibility and awareness, and support the cultural ecosystem of the
Adirondacks. - Maintain awareness of national and regional arts organizations, museums and galleries,
and related media and social media; attend meetings and conferences to represent
View and develop skills and contacts.
Experience
Two to five years of exhibition management preferred, or a combination of education and
related experience. This position is ideal for emerging professionals interested in developing a
broad range of museum/gallery expertise in a modern, well-designed arts center.
Compensation
Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $45-$60k, and includes healthcare and paid leave.
