Membership & Development Associate

Old Forge, New York

This full-time professional position manages View’s Membership program, and coordinates a variety of development strategies and associated initiatives at View. The Membership & Development Associate is an integral part of the View team, and works closely with other staff members, collaborating as needed. This position provides staff support to View’s Development and Membership Committees, working together to expand and strengthen View’s member and donor base, and increase and engage View’s Corporate Partners and Business Members. The Membership & Development Associate reports to the Director of Operations & CFO, and works closely with the Executive Director on development initiatives.


Membership and Development Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and implement membership programming that is consistent with and builds on View’s Mission, Vision and Brand. 
  • Develop and execute a monthly operational schedule based on annual plans and objectives.
  • With the Membership Committee, identify and implement strategies to increase membership through enhanced benefits, engage corporate partners and their employees, and expand business membership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Development and Membership Committees, providing administrative support and taking primary responsibility for implementation of all related initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the annual Membership budget.
  • Work with View’s Events Manager to plan and implement the annual hosted Long View Council (LVC) summer gathering.
  • Prepare and distribute regular member and donor renewal mailings, new member welcome materials, donor acknowledgements, annual appeal mailings, and coordinate all membership activities and deliverables throughout the year.
  • Support development activities, including generating reports and analyzing data from View’s CRM system, Altru, and contributing donor insights to aid in donor cultivation.
  • With Board and committee input, identify and cultivate current and potential individual and business members.
  • Be available for all View events to promote membership, and actively seek opportunities to promote View membership outside of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure that View operates smoothly and efficiently, and that our Membership program contributes to building a strong reputation and brand.


Donor/Member Database Activities

  • Maintain the member and donor database, making certain records are accurate and up to date.
  • Gain proficiency in analytics and reporting to increase donor insights and trends.
  • Ensure timely recognition of donor contributions, and assist the E.D. to identify and acknowledge major donors ($500+).
  • Use online training to enhance database management skills, including building and running reports on members and donors.
  • Responsible for compiling and mailing membership renewals, donor appeals, and donor acknowledgements, ensuring all donations are processed and acknowledged promptly each week.
  • Provide support to the Executive Director on donor identification, cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Research opportunities for grant support, including regional and national foundations and corporate grants, and provide a schedule and summary to the E.D.
  • Assist with gathering data for inclusion in grant final reports, and other development tasks as requested.
  • Work closely with the CFO to maintain accurate revenue records related to membership and contributions.


Skills Requirements

  • Professional experience and demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with database management system(s) preferred but not required.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team, and commitment to working in a creative and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to challenges and changing environments, and to manage multiple deadlines and deliverables.
  • Willing to work occasional evenings and/or weekend days as needed.
