It's All About Value: A Watercolor Workshop with Craig Anderson

Do you want to create more successful Watercolor paintings and increase your confidence as an artist? In this workshop, we will learn how to complete a value sketch to find our best composition and simplify the painting decisions we need to make. We will learn how to leverage our supplies and take full advantage of the tools at our disposal. At the end of this class, you will have the knowledge and skills to be a more confident artist with successful, show-worthy, and award-winning paintings. 

Skill level: Intermediate to Advanced

Materials required: 

1. 1. Paper: Bring your favorite watercolor paper and expect to use at least one half-sheet (15x22) for the in-class painting. 
   2. Paints: Please plan to bring moist paint as the techniques we will be using in the class will not work with dry paint. 
   3. Brushes:  Use your usual arsenal of brushes and be sure to include your biggest ones.
   4. Markers: The artist recommends Chartpak grayscale markers #3 and #6, as well as a fine and broad black Sharpie.

   6. A reference photo or subject for in-class painting

Artist bio: Craig Anderson was born and raised in upstate New York before moving to San Diego in 1988. It was here that his art career was born and raised. He works primarily in transparent Watercolor but uses acrylics as well when it serves the subject. He is drawn to subjects based on their inherent value, which is the contrast of light and dark, or perhaps the emotion and mood of the scene, and sometimes it is the gritty reality of life that speaks to him. Using bold value patterns, color or various textures, Craig allows the story of the painting to come to life. Craig is an award-winning artist whose work is represented by private and corporate collections nationwide. He is a Signature member of San Diego Watercolor Society, California Watercolor Association, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and Central New York Watercolor Society. He has served as a juror in many art exhibitions and is in demand for live demonstrations and workshops. After spending 35 years in San Diego, the Northeast has become Craig's muse once again, as he now lives and paints in Syracuse, New York.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first day of a class can receive a 100% refund or can be exchanged for another class. Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the first day of class will not be refunded.  In the event that View were to cancel a class, a full refund for the class will be issued.
