Art+Type

Every day, we unknowingly encounter typography, rarely pausing to contemplate the actual shapes of the letters. However, the way they are presented and perceived significantly shapes our daily experiences. When we unexpectedly encounter type in art, it captivates our full attention, as we seek to extract meaning from it. Even when the letterforms are abstract, our instinct is to piece them together in an attempt to comprehend their purpose. This exhibition aims to delve into the interplay between text and art. While these pieces represent diverse artistic approaches, they all employ typography to enhance a visual concept.

Art+Type is organized around three thematic threads:

• Abstract- letterforms independent of their meaning
• Gesture - the mark left by the physical act of writing
• Message - typography in concert with imagery as a means to provoke thought

An Opening Reception will be held on May 23, from 5 - 7 pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
