Overview

Six Week Zoom Class:  April 27, May 4, May 25, June 1, June 8, and June 22, 2025.

How do artists get the rich color and beautiful texture of flowers?   In this class we will plan a composition leading to a full and comprehensive drawing.  Bonnie will teach you how to deal with challenging lighting situations, understand surface contours, and how to achieve correct values and color.   

We will be taking a complex, confusing, unruly and complicated pictures, simplify them into an artistically pleasing, well lit, well composed and correct painting. Bonnie will supply photos unless you can supply your own. 

Supply list:

  • Graphite pencils, HB and a dark pencil 6B, or 8B, 9B (you will be tracing your flower onto your good paper)
  • Pencil sharpener: Kum one hole (they are about $1.00) or two holes
  • Plastic eraser i.e.: Staedtler mars plastic, pentel, tombow. You can get these in a barrel, retractable holder, or a regular eraser
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Eraser shield
  • Brush to wipe off erasure shavings and pencil debris from drawing
  • A pad of inexpensive tracing paper, like Strathmore tracing paper, it has a smooth surface. Size 9” x 12”
  • Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Drawing Paper Smooth surface 9” x 12” Very good paper for Botanical Drawings as it allows for several layers or Strathmore 400 series Bristol Drawing Paper Smooth Surface Drawing paper 9” x 12”. Excellent for fine drawings, still allows for great layering of colors. Both Sold in pads.
  • Magnifying glass if you have it to see fine details
  • Prismacolor 36 Tin colored pencils (or equivalent of professional pencils), the full set. You will need these colors to be able to get the range of colors for the flowers we will be drawing.
  • Scissors to cut the tracing paper into appropriate shapes

Please Note: We will record the Botanical color class so if you can’t make all the sessions, you will be able to catch up on each class.  This class is open to all artistic levels!

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first day of a class can receive a 100% refund or can be exchanged for another class. Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the first day of class will not be refunded.  In the event that View were to cancel a class, a full refund for the class will be issued.
