During the annual Quilts Unlimited Exhibition, View will host the 5th Annual ADK Quilt Conference on October 5-7. Choose from multiple workshops featuring both traditional and art quilting techniques, enjoy informal presentations from experts in the field, and network with fellow quilters!

1:00 pm: Catered Lunch with presentation by Linda Pearl, "Your Capsule Stash" - Learn techniques & strategies to use your fabric stash before heading to the store

2:00 pm: Mix & Mingle

3:00 pm: SAQA NY/NJ Artist Panel "byCONTRAST: Apparent Contridictions" - Learn more about how artists in the exhibit create their art quilts & how they develop their artistic voice.

4:30 pm - 5:30 pm: Reception - Get to know your fellow quilters & workshop leaders

Shibori with Indigo Dye with Sue Cortese

  • Learn shibori techniques and use of an indigo vat. Sue will demonstrate techniques as well as show examples of stitched, bound, and pole-wrapped shibori.

Rings Revival with Linda Pearl

  • This quilt gives students a taste of an iconic Double Wedding Ring pattern mixed with more modern elements. The background for the rings is an easy-to piece construction that adds flair and style to this classic pattern.

Intro to Landscapes with Sharon Bottle Souva

  • This is a great introduction to the design of a landscape or garden quilt. By breaking down a photo or picture to its basic design elements, students will use fused applique to create unique works of art.

Printing on Fabrics: Thickened Dyes with Sue Cortese

  • Learn how to use the thickened dyes on fabric! We will talk about creating layers of color and texture to make wonderful fabric with designs of your own choosing.

October Eve's with Linda Pearl

  • This workshop is perfect for scraps - or precuts! Learn how to combine fabrics from two different blocks using the Sew Kind of Wonderful Mini Curve Ruler and the companion book Mini Wonderful Curves.

For the Love of Trees with Sharon Bottle Souva

  • In this class, students will learn Sharon’s technique of fused applique and thread painting to create realistic trees. These trees can be a center point to any quilt or can be included in a landscape design.

12:00 pm: Catered Lunch with presentation by Sue Cortese "Learning to Look" - This lecture is a start down the path of looking at quilts as artwork, whether traditional, modern or art quilt. We will explore the principles of unity, color, and figure/group relationships. It is meant to help makers analyze their work as well as see through a critic’s or judge’s eyes. This lecture is meant to develop an eye for “good, better, and best” perspectives.
